This probably belongs in the imgae prep section but that section doesn't get a lot of traffic so I thought I'd ask here.
I have relocated to The Gold Coast to concentrate on surf photography, Many days that I shoot it is either overcast or backlit, I contribute to several magazines now and want to know from those who have worked in print rooms what effect increasing the saturation levels in photoshop on a photo will do to the final print. Many pics I have to send to mags are somewhat lacking in colour due to the lighting conditions, but when I increase the saturation the prints look really good.
I am increasing saturation to between 40 and 50 points, that'll give you an idea of how poor the lighting is.
Should I,
Not touch saturation levels,
Increase levels to what I want, if so what effect will this have,
or supply the image, (RAW) converted to tiff to the mags as I normally IE cropped and sharpened etc.
I'd hate to provide them with images that are exellent only to have them print like mud due to my actions.
Any ideas or should I just wait till the lighting is adequate?
Some of you Americans will see my stuff in Option Bodyboarding Magazine over the next few months by the way.
