Need your review of Tokina 28-80 AT-X 280 AF PRO

Hi All-
This is a follow up to a thread asking for lens advice from two days ago. I decided to start a new thread since this question is more specific. What so you think of the Tokina 28-80 AT_X 280 AF PRo?
A poster here said that I should consider Tokina because they are very sharp. Background: I have the Canon 1DS, need to make 24x30 portraits at ASA 400 of children outdoors and ASA 100 indoors, studio is 28 feet long so I can get back if needed if you want to reccommend something else. I am down to deciding between an 85L series plus a 50mm or getting this zoom. Weight is an issue, I have the Canon 70-200 IS brand new and am going to sell it unless I get some big muscles asap.
Thanks very much,
Carla

keep the canon, buy a tripod.

it's an excellent lens.

I would only go with a tokina because of the contrast range or if cost is an issue.

Best,
