Re: Shot with EOS1d today

Hi Rick

Can you tell us what you thought of the images (your opinion)? Did the pre-production images appear clean at ISO 200? How did they compare with the D30? Is there a useable ISO 800?

Just curious...

Re: Shot with EOS1d today

I'll be glad to offer my opinion but keep in mind that I only shot a few images. A few outside in daylight and a few in the office under flourescent light.
From the few images that I shot it seems that the 200 asa images are completely free from noise and look as good as D30 files at 100 asa.At 800 asa the files were very clean(almost no noise) in the normaly exposed areas but in the shadow areas there was a little blue noise. At 1600 asa there was a slightly grainy look throughout the whole image with a little more blue noise in the shadows than the 800 asa file.
Quantum Mechanic took care of the blue noise pretty well. I think the way it is now the files at 800 and 1600 are much better then the D30 files and I would be happy with it the way it is.
I think any improvements in the firmware between now and the release date will just be icing on an already very sweet cake.
One thing that I think it did very well was handle mixed light sources. I shot a couple frames with the subject under flourescent but backlit by window light. There was absoultely no magenta cast or glow around the subject from light coming in the window and the subjects color was good also. The WB was set to the flourescent preset.
I'm very excited about getting this camera especially with basketball getting ready to start.
