| Re: File numbering systems - Multiple 1D bodies Hi, Raptor:
The EOS-1D's filenaming style essentially eliminates this concern, since it is substantially different than the D30's.
EOS-1D files use an 8.3 format (i.e., 8 characters followed by a period and a file type extension, either .JPG or .TIF). The first 4 characters are partially derived from a portion of the camera's serial number, and the last 4 characters are digits that the camera automatically increments.
The first 4 characters will vary from camera to camera. Therefore, we don't anticipate any file numbering problems with multiple cameras. Also, the number of images per folder has been increased from 100 in the D30 to 9,999 in the EOS-1D, and folders can be created and selected manually in the camera. Last but not least, it's possible to manually change the first 3 digits of any image data subfolder by mounting the CF card on the desktop with a card reader, so that you can ensure there will be no duplication of folder numbers between multiple cameras if you wish.
