to the EOS 1D haters

Please look at all the specs before making rash decisions. Also please do a little more research into digital before slinging mud. My mom pulls images from the net to make prints and isn't happy with the quality and by no means is she even a serious amature. I would expect more from a pro. Your condemnation of the camera is based on what? An actual 4.8M RAW file once converted will give very different results than a web based jpeg. When you compare the stats what you have is a true (uninterpolated} 4.15 megapixel camera with a huge sensor not a 3/4 inch sensor, not a 5.47 meg camera with rectangular pixels who's file is interpolated to become a reconizable image. Sounds like Nikon"s been bitten by the fuji magic pixel bug. Sounds like Canon has come up with the real deal.

Re: to the EOS 1D haters

You think people want to hate the 1D? I think not. I for one loved the D-30 image but was not willing to put up with the focus issue and software. Great image but lacked in other places. But for the price how could anyone but a sports shooter go wrong.? I waited for 1D and was hoping it would be a cmos with the same pic quality as the D-30 with more resolution. I wanted to love it and wanted to buy one. From what I have seen from Noels post I am not convinced. Before I could wait and bypass the D-30 but time is getting short and I am going to purchase a camera and unless the 1D has a better showing it is out of the running. Read the posts many people are sticking with the D30. That has to tell you something. I hope Noel's tests are premature and my first impressions are wrong, but I don't think so. So I like many others will see if the sample photos are a true representation of the 1D. If they are, buh-bye Canon, hello Nikon. I can't wait another 6 months for Canon to make what they should have produced in the first place.

And if you are satified with the picture quality I am happy for you. Because the more people like you who buy them will pave the way for them to produce another model sooner that will satisfy the rest of us.

Re: to the EOS 1D haters

It is far too soon to be analyzing image quality. Also, in order to do an analysis, one would require original image files straight from the camera. None have yet been made available.

We do not yet have any reason to believe that the image quality will not equal that of the D1x. We know that the camera will have a much faster framerate than any of the D1 variants and will also have a better AF system. It has the largest sensor and therefore lowest focal multiplier of any Digital SLR currently available (though the Contax may launch at the same time) so noise at high ISOs may be quite low.

Right now we do not know what the image quality will be like.

Re: to the EOS 1D haters

Hi all -- Yes of course the D30 had it's limitations. I've posted elsewhere the financial justification of looking at this camera -- for the work I do it'll pay for itself in about 5 gigs (do events primariy).
My only gripe is that the pix I've seen on the 1D site and elsewhere don't match up to the D30 in quality in spite of better MP resolution.
I hope I'm wrong because this looks like the camera I have been waiting for. I agree Portrait and wedding photogs might have wished for higher MP and I'm sure this will be coming -- but sports and PJ's needed faster fps and AF and this is what Canon have obviously done first.
Please any shooters out there who trialed this camera or have got hold of one lets see some quality pix so we can properly assess these.
The ones on the 1D site were about as good as dog poo IMHO.
Cheers all

Re: to the EOS 1D haters

Phthalo,

I'm no 1D hater. However, I'm smart enough to compare the 'net jpeg with a jpeg from my D30, and guess what? It's not worth it for me to upgrade at this time. I know this is a photojournalism forum, but I personally don't need the new speed features if the photos themselves are only marginally better.

To each his own, okay?
