Jz The CR2025 is a nickel sized flat (watch style) battery that is used to maintain the date and time stamps in the camera. It also helps hold in the CF setting between battery changes. Its not likely to help in the writing of the images to the card in case the main battery going dead. The camera will not fire if it knows it doesn't have enough juice to finish the processing so worrying about the camera dying while it processing should not be a problem. On one of my 520's that same battery had died I had to reset the date and time each time I inserted a new battery. That held until the next main battery change. The camera had to be sent back to be fixed. Its not a user changable battery.

I thought it was rather humorous when I saw the number of shots available with no lens. The last time I shot 500 frames with no lens, they didn't really come out as well as I had hoped. It was really hard to focus, there seemed to be almost no exposure control, and I had to clean the sensor every minute or so. But hey, it was really light.

I would miss the zoom feature also, but for a slightly different reason than some. When I shoot certain subjects (actually, all human and animal subjects), I snap the shutter based upon a particular expression I am trying to capture. The zoom feature is the only way I know of, to examine the shot close enough to see if I got that magic shot, or if I will have to try again. I can't tell you how many shots I have thrown away on my D30 after close examination via LCD zoom.

Canon will need to address this ASAP, and yes it should be something that can be added in firmware.

BTW, has anyone with a D30 noticed that the cover for the CR2025 backup battery requires almost no effort to remove? I leave a 30-14 quick release plate on my main body to retain it. The other one has a small piece of electrical tape across the seams.
