Re: EOS-1D Pro observations

"Ello, Guv'nor! I use D30's every day at the paper where I work and the zoom feature is quite handy for checking ID's. I agree that it's difficult to judge images on the screen, because everything looks good. This comes in handy when photographing women because you can show them the little picture and it looks good all the time!
I just shot a hockey game last night with a D30 and I can't wait for the 1D!
It's also interesting to note that Canon said in the press release that they could have made a 5 or 6 megapixel camera, but the 4 meg/8fps combo was best suited for a sports/pj rig. Perhaps another body is in the works...

Re: EOS-1D Pro observations

Can someone with a bit of technical nouse answer this...Isn't zooming into an image something that's done toally by software? And if that's the case, couldn't it be added as an extra menu item by a simple firmware upgrade?

Re: EOS-1D Pro observations

To Gu'vnor -- congrats on Champions League (although I live in Yorkshire now am an ex "Shed" Laddie (Chelsea).
Just a quick question -- You say Canon says EOS1D will take around 500 frames without a Lens attached.
Quote below
As for the battery Canon states it will take 500 frames without a lens attatched and no review on the LCD, maybe 350ish in normal use
End quote

Have I missed something here -- I can't understand why one would want to use a camera without a Lens attached
Cheers -r

Re: EOS-1D Pro observations

Raptor, the short answer is...

Because they can report an inflated battery life if they do it that way.

Personally, I think they should have done it with their most power-efficient lens on and all the automatic stuff shut off. THAT, at least, would have had some semblance of reality.

Re: EOS-1D Pro observations

Re battery life: The Canon USA specs page says the new camera will do 500 shots with a 50/1.4 with 2 sec review on at 20 degrees C/68 F. The 350 shot battery life is at 0 degrees C/32 F.

It doesn't say anything about "with no lens".

This is 500 shots writing both a RAW file and and a large/fine JPEG.

This will be much better life than current Gold batteries in DCS520/D2000, I think... I'm guessing three times the life.

Actually, thinking about it further, that's 500 shots writing 6 megs of data to the card for each shot. Almost none of us working pj's will use the raw feature, so I would think the battery life will be even better only writing 2 megs per shot.

Chuck
