EOS1D 8fps exception

Canon say that it will not do 8fps if the EOS lens is not capable of focusing and closing the diaphram down simultaneously. How can I tell which of mine do? (Most concerned about my first generation 400 F2.8)
If my lenses do not what do you reckon the top fps rate would be?

I too am curious about this. Specifically with the 200mm f/1.8L lens.

Also note that according to the FAQ, the 8fps will work only with a minimum 1/500 shutter speed and the burst rate is dependent on the ISO. I shoot 800 ISO almost exclusively, which brings down the burst from 21 to 14. Hmmmm. But thats ok cuz I only need a max burst of around 8-10 shots.

You might want to contact Canon. I just talked to a shooter using an old first series 400mm, but had it rebuilt by Canon with a Wave 3 motor in it, so now with a 3 or 1v it is actually a lot faster... so it could be done... don't know how much it costs.
