split a bill with usage

if 2 clients want to split a bill to a commercial job that benefits them both and both get usage of the images is this ok with you? how do you explain it to them?

Sounds like a boondoggle. You have two usages, so you should have two fees. I would explain that the cost is based on a per use basis. (If in fact it is so based). But I would offer a discount based on the fact that it's one job.

well i talked to one friend in LA who assists for a big photog and his bills are are sometimes split like this, but he gets like 10-20k a day, so he doesnt care, also he's an arch photog and the other users are sometimes a magazine, so he gets publicity from it.

down in the real world, i charge second users 75% of the origional cost per shot. i dont get any usage to begin with, just restrict use to one user.
