Stock Photos on Pro Photo any interest?

I have tossed around the idea a while of adding some sort of basic way for our members to sell their work.

Is there any interest in this idea?

It would have to be fairly basic type of stock photography, as we do not have the infrastructure or people to manage detailed rights contracts, enforcement, representation, etc.

It would have to be images you would be willing to sell as a royalty free download only, or some other such basic license. We have no wish to become a print fulfillment operation.

It might be something along the lines of this site here: Royalty Free Stock Photos at Fotolia.com except each photographer would be able to set their own pricing for each size of digital download (small (web), med, large, etc.) You would be able to have your own login account and monitor any download sales. We would then send out payment through paypal once a month.

What do you think would be a reasonable percentage for the photographer? I think the going rate is between 20 and 50%. We could probably do better than this. It would require a separate login and would be entirely separate from the existing photo gallery.

What do you think would be a reasonable rate for a yearly subscription to this service.

How much space should be allotted for each account? 1 gb. 2 gb?

We should be able to attract an audience of buyers due to the traffic we already receive around the main site.

Hmmm.....I like it.

The terms and conditions statement on the linked web site is quite long and involved. I suppose we would have to have something similar.

Since my exposure in this industry has been limited so far, I'll have to pass on the recommendations. I bow to the more experienced members.

But I like the concept very much. A place to deal with people you trust is an invaluable resource.

I'm in.

how about just having a % commission agreement, let us do the sales side. you just maintain low res thumbs.

downloading a certain size is a bit scary, i see potential for abuse from clients using beyond the scope they ordered.

In principle I think it's a good idea. Although I, like Dennis must bow to the expertise of others as to the details of pulling something like this together.

My only other experience with Stock Photography has been with Dreamstime--only a few images uploaded, and a few bought...not a significant amount of income to speak of.

The % commission is easy enough. As far as just low res files. The software I am considering allows you to decide on a per photo basis whether you would like to sell only web sized images or sell larger ones for download. You also have to ability to set your own pricing.

How exactly would you handle the sales side? Just curious how that would work.

Here is a demo of the solution I was looking at. It would need to be customized, of course.
