Re: .mac website

As a relative web site novice, I was pleasantly surprised with what it is capable of doing. Easy to create something and easy enough to load. I also produce web sites automatically out of Lightroom - just dump them in the sites folder on your .mac disc. Only possible problem (for me anyway) is that the upload time can be slow in Europe (apparently it is fine in the US).

If you are already using mac services, I'd just have a play and see what you think

Dave

Re: .mac website

Keep in mind that if your website is for business you will want it to be as search engine friendly as possible. The Apple .Mac websites are not root level domains. You will not get high SERPS. So if it's business and it's important to be found then you might be better off getting a root level domain and professional web hosting. If it's just for personal use and for fun then the Apple hosting is fine.

Re: .mac website

At US$99/year .mac is too expensive for what it does. We just ditched ours.
I've got a family website that I maintain myself, and trust me it is not that hard to do If I can do it, so can anyone! I use a company called powweb.com - they're ok & quite cheap - I get my own domain name, loads of space (about 300Gb) which is great for safe & secure storage, and FTPing files is a doddle, particularly with a Mac - use a piece of software called Transmit

Re: .mac website

Yup - agree it's too expensive for web space. However, I primarily use it for syncing other stuff between multiple macs so the .mac space for web sites is a pure bonus. It's true that search engines won't find it easily. I use .mac for personal use and I use a professional service for my business.
