promotional material

There's a local conference coming up and I have an opportunity to have some promotional material in the package of information that each delegate coming to the conference will receive.

Since I'm developing my business with two main areas of focus: Photography (Commercial, Wedding and Art) and Graphic Design, if I want to develop a promotional brochure to give to each delegate, am I better off developing one for each area (i.e. Commercial Photography, Wedding Photography etc.) or just one brochure that encompasses all areas?

Or are postcards a better way to go?

Re: promotional material

Hi Curtis:- use a postcard, each side can highlight one specialty. You can use a teaser on each side to get the reader to turn the card over. Use only your best stuff.
What kind of conference is it? Aim the graphic design and photos towards that market. Use local photos if you have them. That ties you into the local market.
Post your card here so we can see what you did.

Good luck.

Cheers
Chris

Re: promotional material

It's a Northern BC Tourism conference held here in Smithers. I talked with the Tourism officer in charge of organizing things and she estimated approximately 80 or so delegates that would be coming.

Re: promotional material

Here are the mock-ups that I worked on today. Right now I'm leaning towards producing 4 cards. I each for the following areas:
  • Wedding Photography
  • Individual/Family Portraiture
  • Commercial Photography
  • Graphic Design
The cards will be 8.5" x 5", Full Colour on front, Black Ink on back. They will be printed on Carolina Cover C1S 12pt stock. I have to go to production in the next couple of days to allow enough lead time for the delegate bags to get stuffed.

The images below show the front of each card on top of the back in the order listed above.

Re: promotional material

looks good curtis but I don't like that script font on the back - I find it very hard to read. Are you going to include one of each card in the packages. You have tied the whole thing together by using the aperture graphic.

Cheers
Chris

Re: promotional material

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the evaluation. At first I thought that it was hard to read because the samples I posted are obviously a much lower resolution and smaller size than my original InDesign files. But then I looked at InDesign originals and do agree with you that it would be hard for people to read.

I'm pretty big on visual variety, and not using the same font for all the text on any given page. So that's why I was trying out the scripty font you see now. I think the best thing to do is just go through my fonts again and see if there's another complementary one that's just easier to read.

I'll post a sample of the new font when I find a better one...

And yes, I am planning on putting one of each card into each delegate package. I got a quote from the printers here in town and it will cost me $227.40 (+tax) to get 400 cards (100 each) printed.

Re: promotional material

Here's my revision with a more readable font for the descriptive text on the back of the cards. I'm only posting one representative image.

I was having trouble figuring out which font to use until I realized that I should just use the bold font I used on the front of the card. So now all the fonts on the front, are the only ones used on the back. Perfect.
