Re: lens help

Sure, that would get you in closer. Probably a good choice for you.

As you grow in capability, something like a 70-200 will give you better results at the long end.

I guessing that the 17-55 is probably a better lens in its range than the 18-200, but if funds are a problem, you could easily sell it on E-Bay if necessary.

As you grow in capability, the 70-200 will give you better results for that purpose.

Re: lens help

Try to find something in the 70 - 200 range. That 17-55 is a good as it gets, and you'll really see the difference in optical quality with the 18-200

Re: lens help

If you possibly can do so, I'd keep the 17-55 lens. It's a very good lens for the money, and likely to be your normal workhorse lens. I haven't used that one, but I have used the 18-70, and it is an excellent lens, and I'm betting that the 17-55 just builds on that experience.

The 18-200 is an excellent walk-around lens when you don't want to have to be changing lenses for just snapshots. The one I had I didn't like because it just didn't have the quality I needed, but it was an ok walk-around lens.
