Question Nikon D100 replacement?

My old D100 just died. I am looking for an affordable, used replacement ($3-600 for used body). I felt like the D100 never handled low light conditions, with or without SB-600 flash, well enough. I take most shots of kids running around indoors.

Should I look for replacement with high ISO rating, vibration reduction, or specific technology that would help?

Is there a specific model you would recommend?

I appreciate any advice you can offer. Best regards,

Christian

Re: Nikon D100 replacement?

The $300 to $600 is about the price range for a D100 and D70/s. For a little more, maybe in the $700 to $900 range you could find a D200 and probably a D80 at the low end of this range.

The D70 and D70s are better cameras than the D100. The D80 and D200 are a step above that. However, I would save my money and bite the bullet and buy either the D90 or D300 and be good for the next couple of years, rather than stay that far back and be done with it.

No matter which replacement you purchase, get the fastest and largest newer CF or SD cards you can find. Don't forget, if you are using older software (Photoshop CS1 to CS3), is is unlikely to support the newer raw formats. Also, with the newer cameras (D200 and newer), files are larger, take more time to download and more space on the hard drive, so a few more factors to consider when you upgrade cameras.

Good luck in moving forward.
