Certainly do not over look the original 5D. As the new model comes out, there should be some excellent buys on an excellent camera for what you want to do. I'm sorta lookin that way myself.

It'll leave you some wallet room to acquire better glass.

Thank you everyone for your wonderful replies. Many of you have presented very sound advice that will help in my journey to achieving my goals.
