Re: Nikon D2x or what?

Certainly do not over look the original 5D. As the new model comes out, there should be some excellent buys on an excellent camera for what you want to do. I'm sorta lookin that way myself.

It'll leave you some wallet room to acquire better glass.

Re: Nikon D2x or what?

Indeed the D2x would not be my choice for portraits etc. The benefits of the D2X, and it does have it's plus points, are not in the wedding and portrait category compared to todays technological marvels. If you were on the hunt for an all-weather, tough as nails camera for photojournalism then it would be a wise and affordable choice vs. say a 5d.

Personally I would be looking at good glass first. In controlled environments like what you speak of, good glass is going to make a far bigger difference for you.

(before the wedding and event folks roast me on the fire i do realize that weddings and events are not exactly "controlled" environments but what i mean is you are not concerned about sandstorms or running from the riot police in the streets of lahore. in that case "tough as nails" and "fast" trump pixel peeping high iso capability)

A d2x(s) would be a good buy for a certain crowd... I don't think that's your crowd though.
