Portfolio Presentation Boxes

I am looking for information for student photographers. Student at our local photography program seem to favor presentation portfolio boxes like this. I have not seen one of these out in the real world for some time and would like your opinion.

There are lots of popular options available such as Lost Luggage, Brewer-Cantelmo, and Asuka. Are the 11x14 print boxes still relevant?

Re: Portfolio Presentation Boxes

What is the purpose of the box? Is it for archival storage or presentation to a potential client/employer?

For presentation, a portfolio case with fixed or removal pages is preferred. Sending a box of loose photos through the mail to a potential employer is not ideal.

Re: Portfolio Presentation Boxes

Actually, the prints are flush mounted. I do not think the students realize that many commercial and editorial portfolio request are drop off's if local, or FedEx shipment if not local.

I get the feeling the student think that they are always going to be granted an interview that will allow them to 'show' their work. Unless you are well known many art buyers prefer to review your book at a time when the photographer is not present, avoiding the awkward situation of having to say something good about every picture. If you pass their initial review they may call you in for an interview.
