We want a multiple DVD burner and label maker

We are taking our business in another direction. I want to buy a multiple DVD burner and a self-contained label maker which burns the DVD's (at least 10 at a time) and in the same machine will make a label and attatch the label to the disc.

Not looking to break the bank, but don't want crap either.

Hi Larry,

What about a LightScribe DVD burner?

LaCie - LaCie d2 DVD±RW with LightScribe - USB 2.0 and FireWire, with Double Layer

Quote:
This powerful drive features innovative LightScribe labeling technology, which burns custom, silkscreen-quality, precise images directly onto your discs using the very same laser that burns data.
Rather than creating a label, you burn the label right on the disk. You do require LightScribe disks, which are about the same price as normal DVD disks.

Verbatim - 30-Pack 16x DVD+R LightScribe Disc Spindle - 95091

Just a thought.

Best regards,
Kevin

I don't know anything about these people.... discmakers.com ... but I'm on their mailing list and get catalogs from them often. I just got one yesterday and was browsing through it over lunch. They have a variety of machines like what you describe. They cover a wide price range based on what capability you desire. They have machines that do it all but the highest capacity systems use a separate duplicator and printer. The top duplicator can do something like 60 DVDs an hour and could run unattended for numerous hours at a time. All of these units would be printing directly on the disk. No adhesive labels. Lightscribe looks pretty cool but in my experience are painfully slow

I looked at Bob Smith's discmakers.com. From a price to value point of view, I agree with Bob. You'll get more CDs printed per hour for less cost.

Perhaps my post will help someone looking for a single solution for home.

They are really bad when it comes to

a) speed [writing the label side takes forever ... and a day]
b) lifetime [tests by German computer mags and institutes show major deterioration within 3 months, complete unreadability within 18 months, IIRC].

First of all you don't want anything that prints a label and then affixes it to a disc. That's very bad for disc longevity. You want to print to the disc directly, not to a label.

Secondly I'd specify your needs in terms of throughput: perhaps need to produce 10 discs per hour at 400 MB, etc. Also it's possible that it makes sense to print the labels on a different system, i.e., you might find the best duplicator for you and the best disc printer are not the same unit, and manually taking a stack of duplicated discs and loading them into a printer may be reasonable.

Primera has been selling devices of this sort for a long time. I'd expect them to be pricey, but this isn't their first try. Likewise Rimage.

I see some on the Genesys DTP site, some at Media Supply etc. A search will turn up more, and cheaper I'm sure.

Re: We want a multiple DVD burner and label maker

Check out Primera Technologies. They have a wide range to choose from.

DVD Duplicators, Disc Duplicator, CD Printer, Discs Copiers, & Duplication Systems

We print directly on the DVD and get a good quality. We burn the DVD's at 4-8x to assure they last a while.
