keywords

I have ACDSee Pro and need to start cataloging my images. (Canon RAW files...by the way). My plan is to create a my own searchable stock photo site but if the keywords I'm assigning to my images aren't traveling with the images I assume this won't work. Before I start this process I want to make sure this is the right program for my needs and that I am applying the keywords correctly (don't want to do this twice!). I have applied keywords to some of my images in ACDSee Pro and find that the keywords don't appear in Adobe Bridge.

I think the best method would be to keyword the RAW image files in Capture 1 Pro prior to converting to tif or jpg and then have the keywords attached to the images no matter what editing I do or saving them to different directories. I can't find a way to do this though.

I don't have any problem purchasing new software for this task if it will imbed the keywords on all files from raw through web upload and search. Is it possible that lightroom will work. I read another thread that mentioned that Canon RAW files disallow 3rd party meta tags from being imbeded in the file itself.

Is there anyone who can shed light on this form me?

Thanks!
Brian

Re: keywords

I use Photo Mechanic for keywording, and it works really well. You can create a drop down menu and add your keywords to that. It really speeds things up.

If you want to put up your own on-line stock catalog, try Photo Shelter. It's not that expensive, and it does all the e-commerce for you.

Check out Controlled Vocabulary: your site for information on Keyword, Hierarchical Classification, Thesauri, Taxonomy for lots of advice on keywording images. A great resource!
